This feature allows roaming a user's Outlook Search information. This feature can be used on single-user (XenDesktop, VDI, etc.) or multi-user systems (RDSH, XenApp, etc.) but only the Outlook email Search information is roamed.

Requirements:

  • Supported on Windows 8 and later, Windows Server 2012 R2 and later, both 32 and 64 bit
  • Supports Outlook 2010 and later
  • The product key must enable the Office 365 Container feature
  • Reboot machine after RoamSearch = 2 is configured and of course make sure Windows Search is installed.
    • Also if Windows Search was installed after MS Office, please do a 'repair' on MS Office (through Add/Remove Programs) so that the components which integrate with Windows Search will be installed. The MS Office install does not put these components in place if it does not detect Windows Search.

Profile Containers

To store the per-user portion of the Search Database in the Profile Container:

  • Set HKLM\Software\FSLogix\Apps (DWORD) RoamSearch = 2
  • Set HKLM\Software\FSLogix\Profiles (DWORD) RoamSearch = 2

Office 365 Containers

To store the per-user portion of the Search Database in the Office 365 Container:

  • Set HKLM\Software\FSLogix\Apps (DWORD) RoamSearch = 2
  • Set HKLM\Software\Policies\FSLogix\ODFC (DWORD) RoamSearch = 2

3rd Party Roaming Profile Solutions

To store the per-user portion of the Search Database in the profile:

  • Set HKLM\Software\FSLogix\Apps (DWORD) RoamSearch = 2

The user's database files will be stored in the user's profile directory under Appdata\Roaming\FSLogix\WSearch.

Reseting a user's Search Database

To reset the user's database, use the "frx reset-user-search-db" command.

Troubleshooting

  • Enable the log settings for Windows Search Roaming
  • Enable the log settings for Windows Search Plugin
  • Check the log files generated under %programdata%\FSLogix\Logs\Search
  • Check the log files generated under %programdata%\FSLogix\Logs\SearchIndex
  • Check the Profile and ODFC logs. They will indicate if Search Roaming is enabled and where the database will be stored.

Please note that when using this feature, the Outlook option will not show up in the indexing options.
